Lend Students Pens, Pencils, and Paper
None of us are perfect.
Students will forget
the equipment they need in order to work.
We can become emotional and decide to punish them by saying something like, "Because you didn't bring a pen you just sit there and watch the other students work."
Who is being punished?
Ultimately it is us because these students will be taking examinations.
I used to lend students a pen or paper.
I took a shoe as a deposit which insured that I would get the pen back.
I used to attend workshops at hotels or convention centers.
At the end of the presentation, I used to take all unclaimed pads or pens.
Or I would tell the vendors at
the end of a conference that I would be willing to lighten
their load home by taking the pens or pads they were distributing and give them as prizes for academic achievement to my students.
