Taking a Risk
Education is a relatively riskfree, stable job.
And most educators are not
risk takers.
The New York Times recently asked its readers, "What was the greatest risk you have taken?"
The answers were interesting and made me think that maybe we should be asking our at-risk students the same question.
What do you think they might answer?
How many of us can guess their responses?
Maybe it is a question we should ask them once they get to know us better.
We can ask them to take a risk on what we are teaching and what we are telling them about their future and how
much their lives are dependent on success in the educational system.
